What if my library materials are overdue?

Answer

  • As a courtesy, the library sends a reminder to borrowers through SIUE E-mail two days before items are due.

  • Overdue notices are sent via SIUE e-mail and U.S. mail.

  • Even if a notice is not received, borrowers are responsible for assessments incurred.

  • Many overdue items may be renewed without fines. However, when applicable, fines are assessed as follows:

    Browsing collection - $1.00/day
    Periodicals - $1.00/day
Recalled items - $1.00/day from new due date
Reserve items including media and equipment - $1.00/day/item or $1.00/hour
    Special loans - $1.00/day
Building use Laptop computers - $20.00/hour
    Videocassettes & DVD’s - $1.00/day

  • If an item is 30 days overdue, unpaid fines and replacement costs are transferred to University Accounts Receivable for collection. A $20.00 non-refundable processing fee is added for each transfer of charges to A/R. At this time, borrowing privileges are suspended.

  • Other libraries may also request that Lovejoy Library suspend borrower privileges for unreturned interlibrary loan materials and/or unpaid fines or fees.
